willibemiserable asked: Hi. I'm an Avian Biology major with a possible double major in Marine Biology. Or I may just switch over to Marine Biology. My whole life, I've wanted to become a veterinarian. Up until recently. Now, I would like to work with sea turtles. Conservation. But my problem is, I don't even know where to start. I'm in college in Georgia right now and I wouldn't mind moving...

I have had the craziest 10 days...
…hence no Tumblr.
I necropsied a pan-tropical spotted dolphin.
I went to a provincial government meeting.
I got interviewed for two newspapers.
I monitored a severe propellor cut on a whale shark.
I lost my shark biopsy cherry.
I became a shark biopsy slut.
It was awesome. Apart from the prop cut. That sucks.

Congrats Fairmont for joining the ever growing club!
“Our hotels are constantly seeking ways to be more ethical in their menu choices and have removed other at risk species under the guidance of reputable seafood watch organizations. Simply put, it’s the right thing to do.”

Don't let Hammerheads get hammered: Petition for... →
Hammerheads are targeted by fisheries by their fins, but as yet there are no international protection measures against this.
If Hammerheads were listed under the CITES II appendix, over 175 signatory states would be unable to trade in their parts.
Currently only three species of shark are listed (Whale Shark, Basking Shark and the Great White). Let’s up the numbers!

Anonymous asked: Hello! I was wondering if you could list other majors that are similar to Marine Biology because when I do college searches, it seems like they have the course, but it's listed as a different name. I hope you know what I'm trying to ask. D:

The (amazing) Fisheries Officer I worked with in...
I am so chuffed for her! It’s the first step in her plan to start a collaborative Reef Check monitoring in the area!
It’s a pioneering step for her to take. She told the local government that if she, and other fisheries officers in her Province are supposed to protect the marine environment, and the waters of Puerto Galera have been named the marine biodiversity capitol of the world,...

allerzfish asked: I love this blog so much! I'm currently getting a degree in biology (in Colorado, cause I'm stuck here), then moving on for my master's and PhD in marine ichthyology. Currently, I'm doing research on convict cichlid behavior, and I'm really enjoying it! While I'm stuck in Colorado, it's been kind of a drag wondering when I'll get back to the water....
Anonymous asked: Hello! I have a question. When I first when scuba diving (Greece), my diving instructor fed bread to the fish. Was this wrong of them?

asiasociety:
Users of Chinese and Western social media speak out on an announced ban on consumption of shark fin soup at Chinese government banquets.
[Quote from story]… Reactions on China’s microblogs have been far more vocal — amassing some tens of thousands of posts in one day, most of them very cynical.
“Shark fin is only one dish in the range...
