Mad as a Marine Biologist

High-res voiceoftheocean:

For the price of $13.99 you can own a dead baby shark in a jar. These “cute” little fellows are available tourist shops down in Myrtle Beach, SC. You can also purchase baby alligator heads, alligator feet, and shark jaws in various sizes.

All that potential predatorness wasted. Do you know what species they are? Do you have the names/ addresses of these shops? Could write them letters educating them on the consequences of exploiting the babies of a k-selected apex predator. It may not be much but they would no longer have the excuse of ignorance. Remember to be polite, unemotional and factually correct.
Check out the tone in some letters my friend & environmental advocate Anna Oposa has sent in the past re: shark’s fin soup:-

If they are already selling sharks, they won’t care if your heart is breaking at seeing these beautiful creatures in a jar. Give them tangible facts, and realistic scenarios. Something they can relate to.
