Mad as a Marine Biologist

High-res Green Fins Environmentally Friendly Diving and Snorkeling Guidelines
Green Fins is a United Nations Environmental Programme initiative aimed to improve environmental standards of the diving tourism industry.
It’s aimed at dive centres to get them to reduce impacts in and out of the water. But individual divers can help too. Following these guidelines, and rewarding your dive guides with praise/tips etc when they don’t harass that critter, or they do put their cigarette butts in an ashtray all helps to change the attitude of the industry.
If you are diving in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia or Philippines look out for Green Fins accredited dive centres - these have had training and are assessed annually on their environmental impacts.
